Our Land & Environment
Nestled in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea, the Southern Highlands region is one of the country’s premier coffee-growing areas. With elevations ranging from 1,300 to 1,800 meters, a cool, humid climate, and abundant rainfall, it provides the perfect conditions for cultivating high-quality Arabica coffee. The fertile volcanic soil of Koroaka enhances coffee growth, enriching the beans with essential minerals. The significant temperature difference between day and night slows down the ripening process, allowing coffee cherries to develop a more complex and refined flavor profile.
A Legacy of Coffee Cultivation
Coffee cultivation in Papua New Guinea dates back to the early 20th century, introduced by European settlers. The Southern Highlands soon became a key hub for coffee production, with Koroaka standing out for its smallholder farming tradition. Local farmers, often working on plots of just a few hectares, continue to use traditional hand-picking and processing methods. While commercial-scale plantations emerged in the 1930s, Koroaka farmers have preserved their time-honored techniques, ensuring a unique coffee profile that embodies their rich heritage.

Coffee farming is passed down through generations, with elders teaching the younger ones how to select the finest cherries and harvest them with care. Families and neighbors work hand in hand, infusing each bean with the warmth of their shared efforts.
